CIGRE Science and Engineering (CSE) - The technical magazine of choice

Rob Stephen

CIGRE Science & Engineering Editor-in-Chief

Welcome to this, the 26th edition of CSE, a Scopus registered (ISSN 2426-1335) magazine which provides the following benefits:

  1. Free publication – no financial obligation to authors;
  2. Free download – maximum exposure for authors’ work;
  3. Rigorous review – reviewers are selected from the most knowledgeable experts globally by the Study Committee chairpersons;
  4. Rapid publication – the time from submission to publication can be from 6-9 months depending on the revisions required.

Although the scores are fairly low as CSE was only Scopus registered in 2020, the progress is impressive with citations increasing from 0,4 in 2020 to 0,6 in 2021 and 0,8 to September this year.  This implies that at present there are 80 citations for 101 documents published or 80%.  The magazine also boasts a high impact as it is free download and reaches experts in over 90 countries belonging to the CIGRE family.

Note that CIGRE is installing systems to enable search engines to locate CSE papers based on key words.  This should be available via all search engines and should greatly increase the access of the papers to engineers worldwide.

You may have noticed that selected papers have been advertised in LinkedIn and on Twitter feeds.  In October this was performed on two papers from the CSE edition 25.  For this edition 4 papers will be selected for exposure on these platforms.  This provides authors with more opportunity to have their papers read globally.

In this edition we are proud to publish 5 excellent papers that have undergone a rigorous peer review process by international experts nominated by the CIGRE Study Committee chairpersons. It should be noted that CSE is extremely strict with regard to acceptance of papers. For this edition a number of papers were either rejected or not revised in time for publication. The editorial Board stresses quality above quantity in all instances. In addition 6 carefully selected papers from the Kyoto CIGRE symposium held earlier this year have been included.

Topics in this edition cover a broad range of topics. On the power distribution side there are papers dealing with utilization of transformers for EV charging and diode based transmission for rural areas. There is also a paper dealing with blackstart and restoration using inverter based resources for distribution feeder and critical loads. Grid forming control for offshore supplies is also covered. We are also very pleased to include a paper on the future of power line carriers, a topic that is rarely covered. Papers from the symposium cover resilience, switchgear, demand response, voltage control and 5G communication issues.

As can be seen from the above the papers are all extremely relevant and highly technical covering information relating to most issues relating to power delivery globally at present.
